Table games are a staple of most all casinos, big or small. Some casinos even specialize in only offering table games. These types of facilities are better known as “card rooms.” While most gambling enthusiasts are familiar with popular table games such as blackjack and poker, many are surprised to find out that there are a plethora of other table games too. Some games, such as Three Card Poker, are derivatives of more popular table games, whereas others, like Roulette, are unique and have less variations.
Poker Games
Poker is a table game with many different forms and variations. Many people think of poker as a game that is played against other players, and this is mostly true, but there are also versions of the game that are played against the house or a live dealer. Though Texas Hold’em is the most popular and widely played form of poker, the game has many variations. These include Three Card Poker, Omaha, and 7 Card Stud among others. Poker (non-house varieties) is the only, for all intents and purposes, casino game that allows for a long-term profitable edge for the player.
Unlike slots and other luck-based games, poker is a game that involves elements of both skill and luck. Many inexperienced poker players have found out the hard way that it takes a little more than simply sitting at a table and laying down chips to come out on top. Poker can be found at most casinos regardless of size, though the smaller the casino the more unlikely it is that they will host many of the more obscure poker games. Below you can learn more about each of these varieties in full detail.
Most Popular Poker Varieties
Poker as you would find it on television or in tournaments often include just a few poker varieties. These will be Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Stud, and other similar games. Poker games that are played against the house and are not featured on television include Three Card Poker, Pai Gow Poker and Ultimate Bonus Poker. While this is the case today, many new and exciting varieties are popping up each year.
Blackjack
Blackjack is another popular table game that you will find in almost every casino. Because it is a simple game that is easy to learn with relatively good odds, blackjack draws in countless numbers of casino-goers. The game is offered at multiple stake levels and is able to cater to any type of bankroll. It is not uncommon for some smaller casinos to offer up tables with limits as low as $5, while you can venture into a high limit room where the table minimum is $1,000, $10,000 or more. Like poker, there are a few different variations of blackjack. Some types of blackjack differ in the way they payout winners while others are different due to the actual rules of play set forth by the casino. As is the case with poker, you will be hard-pressed to find a casino that doesn’t offer blackjack. Some casinos in-fact only offer blackjack and other table games. These are commonly referred to as card rooms.
Other Popular Table Games
While the two aforementioned table games involve playing with a deck (or decks) of cards, some other popular casino games like Roulette are entirely different. Roulette features a metal ball which spins on a numbered wheel where winning or losing corresponds directly with the number or color on which the metal ball lands. Accompanying the wheel is a table with identical numbers used by players to place bets.
Roulette
Roulette is a game based entirely on luck, with payouts ranging from 1 to 1, to 5 to 1, and even as large as 35 to 1, depending on the type of bet you place. With every player standing a chance to win big with just the spin of a wheel and little to no knowledge of the game, it is easy to see why so many people are drawn to this game. Craps
Craps is like roulette in that it is a popular table game based entirely on luck. In craps, you are betting on the chances your roll of two dice will yield a number combination equal to the number on which you wagered on. Played on a large table and usually with crowds of cheering people surrounding it, the craps table is almost impossible to miss at the casino. There is some strategy behind the game of craps, though for the most part the player is relying almost entirely on luck. Read the full World Casino Index guide to craps below to learn more.
